RTJ November 2016

November 2016 marked our second annual Robert Trent Jones Trail adventure. This year we tackled the middle of the state and folded in one location that we played in 2015, Silver Lakes.

Our home base was in a VRBO in Birmingham, placing us close to two of the locations, Ross Bridge and Oxmoor Valley. The fourth location was Capitol Hill just north of Montgomery that had three 18-hole courses.

The “premium” course “Ross Bridge” was simply spectacular. So nice that one unnamed member of the group decided to forget to bring his golf spikes and played in street shoes. The “semi-premium” course “The Judge” was almost as nice.

Randy brought some staples, Curt brought the wine, Pat brought the steaks, and Steve brought himself (which turned out to be the largest contribution).

Weather: Best I have ever played in. Started in the 60’s, moved into the 70’s, winds typically 6 mph, never hot, never cold, mostly sunny. What a deal.

One course had been aerated a week prior, however was in such great condition and so fun, we played it twice.

One unnamed team scored 70 points in low/total/birdie/proxy/roll/reroll in a SIX-hole match. Pat was in the 70’s twice. I have golfed quite a bit over the years and have NEVER seen anyone putt as well as Pat. Randy was in a rut for his last four rounds scoring 80, 80, 80, and 80. Curt is opening a chipping academy with contributions from the 70 point winners. His driving was superb. Steve got more birdies than the record books can record. The Spades card games wound up similar to the Presidential Election in that the declared winning team shouldn’t have won.

No group picture because my technology challenged two starters too much.
