For the second year in a row, three intrepid warriors from the Midwest braved bone-chilling cold to venture to Destin, FL to join the Southeastern golf magician for a week of golf. Despite being a bit chilly, this week provided “shorts” weather for most of the week, one rain out, and one wind/chill out. Our last day was on a course where several holes were unprotected from the 33 MPH gusts. The pin on #9 was bent over farther than the pins that I once played during a tropical depression. We bailed out after 9 holes even though two of the stalwart crew had sub-40 9-hole scores. It was nasty enough that the pro shop gave a “??rain check??” for the nine holes not played. Did I really look that sorrowful or did I beg so diligently to maneuver us into that refund?
Highlights
Early in the week, to show how luck can win, Pat tossed a playing card (or similar) ten feet for Steev to catch. He misses the catch but deflects it into the waiting hand of Randy. Thus, we knew that all bets were off for the week. Examples: A sure out of bounds shot hit chain link fence and bounced back in bounds. A yanked 5-iron into the deep lumber landed softly on the pine straw for a pitch to the green. A fanned driver, bladed 7-iron, 10-foot birdie. Too many to list.
Steev joined the crew only to fill out our foursome and to ride along. His recent knee surgery prohibited him from any real golf (he kick our asses).
Kurtz displayed his 5A chef rating once again by providing more quality than we deserve. Anonymous ratings from the other three below on a 1-5 scale:
- Pizza/wings: 4.3
- Loose meat: 3.0
- Italian beef: 3.3
- Pork tenderloin sliders: 3.3
- Grilled chicken thighs: 3.3
- Steak and baked potato: 4.0
- Chile cheese dogs: 4.7
Fuzzy and Steev gave us Michelin 5-star breakfasts throughout (maybe a couple of days of Randy’s gruel). We may have stumbled onto a corned beef hash trail for future events.
Our weak playing schedule opened up “Movie Night” to another level. We even went with “Movie Morning” once. Despite this movie addiction, we did take the time for Steev and Randy to give a clinic in playing Spades to the hapless opponents.
So, for the “Alabama Game,” Kurtz cleaned our clocks with Randy sucking the hind tit that he deserved. However, you may want to look at the below graphic to see if you really want a piece of him.
