RTJ November 2025

  • Of course, the weather forecasters were wrong, and we played in nice weather for the six days in Huntsville, AL. We played the two local courses, another RTJ course an hour fifteen away, then a non-RTJ course we like an hour to the South.
  • Neck and neck on the last day, Pat overcame an almost debilitating sore back using a handful of ibuprofen and sheer will to log a 75 and take out Randy for the overall low average. He also cleaned up in the Alabama game. Randy won low-total-birdie-prox-roll-reroll convincingly for the 137th time in a row.
  • For some unknown reason, Stev gifted his Master Bedroom to Pat.
  • Rental house worked great except for spotty internet/TV service and one disabled shower.
  • Once again, the meal item that got the highest rating was the seasoned green beans, followed closely by the baked potatoes. (In truth, Curt overachieved and wowed us with his talent on the grill and in the kitchen once more).
  • Gimmee putts: See the image below. Back in the day, inside the leather was defined by #1. Over the years, we went to a “modified inside the leather” which is shown by #2. For 2025, since we are all friends some of the time, we expanded to “inside the putter” as shown by #3.
  • Biggest Controversy: Long story – With sun directly in our eyes on hole 18 Thursday, Randy poorly hit a 9-iron approach that nobody saw. It felt short and left. The Boize combed the entire area left of the green and behind. No joy. Somebody said to play a leaf ball (no stroke). But in fairness, Randy called lost ball, took a stroke, and dropped the ball where it should have been – short left on the fringe leaving a twisting, uphill, 70-foot putt, which should have added an extra stroke due to it normally being three putt. Randy made a two putt for his five. There was a full twenty-five cent bet on the result, so he didn’t want to NOT take a stroke penalty. We finished the hole. Lo and behold, as we were driving under four lane road in a long tunnel back to the clubhouse, the errant ball was spotted in the tunnel halfway across a couple hundred feet from the green. The hue and cry from the opposing team was deafening, describing the 14 different ways the ball should have been played instead on the very fair way Randy played it.
