2020 Wrap Up

It seemed like déjà vu all over again. Below was the weather forecast one week before the start of our adventure.

weather forecast for scagi 2020

What actually happened was that we had zero rainouts. We did take the first day off when we saw that the high temp for wind chill that day was going to be in the thirties. We went to the cinema to see “1917”. The rest of the week – golf every day.

Highlights of Our 33rd Annual Event

– As you can see by the year’s scores at: https://scagi.com/scores/last-years-scores/, Danno scorched the earth, enabling him to drag down his historical score to double digits. See: https://scagi.com/scores/historical-scores/

– Riddler, armed with countless rounds of prep work and hundreds of hours in the Dome, dominated the field once again. With that level of play, he should be able to overtake the overall historical low score leader within a decade or so.

– Genetics count. The only non-athlete in the group of eight couldn’t cut it. The fourth-place winner in Shotput in the 1971 Minnesota Southwest Conference Track Meet could only play 18 holes until he folded with claimed blown hip. Supposedly a few months of Physical Therapy will fix the issue. This forced the remaining seven proven athletes to play as a four-some and three-some most of the week (the Stubster missed the last two days due to a scheduling conflict). The host profusely apologizes for his weakness and resultant negative impact on the week.

– In his first appearance since 2007, Scoop demonstrated his skill on the course and was the Energizer Bunny in the house doing everything that everyone else shied away from.

Dining

In addition to the fabulous specialties provided by the Gosling, we enlisted the culinary skills of Danno (baked chicken deluxe), Riddler (bubba burger bonanza) Swede (meatloaf supreme), Randy (Kurtz guided special spaghetti) and Colt (pork roast extraordinaire).

Evenings

Evenings were filled with roundtable discussions of the validity of handicaps, questioning genealogy, and general praise of each other. We also watched movies such as Mission: Impossible V – Rogue Nation, The Foreigner, Flightplan, Trouble With The Curve, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Dunkirk, The Upside, St. Vincent, Rambo: Last Blood, A Walk in the Woods, Revenge, and a couple others.

Lessons Learned

  • Avoid blistering recrimination by never posting a score less than your handicap.
  • Never over-serve yourself to avoid early evening naps and spillage.
  • Before taking relief, always ask yourself, “What would Steve do?”

The Future

The Queen has not tossed any bait at us for a stellar rental offer for next year. Additionally, most of the stocks in my portfolio are now worth less than zero and I owe the brokerage house money. Based on that, maybe we can get together for a couple days on a farm course in Arkansas for 2021.

Acumen

The below video of our golf swings will go viral before the week is out. Most prestigious golf schools around the country have been requesting unrestricted use of it to train golfers of all skill levels.
