2019 Wrap Up

A totally amazing week! Just days before our event, the ignominious weatherpersons called for six days of rain for our seven days of golf. What actually happened was superb weather for every day except a rainout of the final two holes of the week. We were not surprised. This ineptitude in forecasting has happened for just about every SCAGI to date.

Golf: Our first year of moving to the senior tees. All but one of us celebrated this. We threw him a bone and played the member tees for 18 of 27 holes at Pawleys Plantation. Pat dominated the field from day one and was the medalist. Eclipsing his dominance was an event seldom seen outside of the professional circuit. One foursome produced FOUR BIRDIES on the same hole on one of our rounds. I would be remiss if I didn’t elucidate that: 1) the prior group had zero birdies, and 2) the birdies were logged by Swede, Dan, Pat and Randy. Figure the odds. We rated the courses at the end of the week and came up with three clear favorites. My guess is that we will be seeing these courses again in 2020.

Rookie: Bill acquitted himself with such amazing composure over the week that some of us were left speechless. He navigated the gauntlet of verbal abuse at the hands of our verbal abuser with aplomb. Threatened with a mid-week review laced with inuendo that biological events couldn’t happen by themselves, he remained undaunted. Aside from that, he brought serious game.

Dining: Wow! Perennial favorites of cedar plank salmon and prime cow made strong men drool. Dan’s entry into chefdom produced a baked chicken that Irina would have lauded. Breakfasts by Steev and sous-chef Pat are still being talked about and being exercised off.

Entertainment: We ran through some great movies. After running out of great movies we started to struggle. The final night we stumbled into one called “Free Fire”. Those of us remaining awake for the showing are still wondering if we really, really enjoyed it or really, really didn’t. If you are ever in a party atmosphere and want to subject the crowd to an interesting film, try it.

We captured the swings that make angels weep in the following video.
